A 3D model of an apartment: furniture is checked at real size before you buy it
An interactive apartment model in the browser, one page with no build step. Plan, 3D and a first-person walk, furniture layout with clearance checks, finishes and the sun by date and time.
Context
A personal project: find out before buying furniture what actually fits in the apartment. The point is not a pretty picture but an answer — a specific wardrobe from the catalogue either fits the niche or it does not, and the gap is visible at once.
What was built
Three view modes. A plan from above, 3D with orbiting and a walk at eye height with wall collisions. Separately, the task: viewing, furniture or finishes.
Furniture. Catalogue items are dragged across the plan and snap to walls and neighbours, show dimension lines, rotate, copy and swap; undo goes back 100 steps. The layout check finds overlaps, blocked door swings and passages narrower than 60 cm.
Finishes and light. Wall and floor materials change with a live preview, the sun is set by date and time.
Geometry from the developer’s plan. Dimensions were taken from the plan by pixel scale — 2.24 cm per pixel, accurate to about 5 cm — and checked against the room areas printed on the plan. Walls are described as data in one place, and the Blender render is built from the same data.
A light build. One page with no bundler and no framework, furniture models compressed (Draco, WebP).
Scale: about 3 thousand lines of HTML and JavaScript and 3.5 thousand lines of Python for data preparation and renders.
